How to Install on your Mac

Setup takes about 30 seconds, one time only. After that, the app opens normally every time.

✅ Don't worry about the warning. Your Mac will say it "could not verify" the app. This is normal for independent education apps and TheAccountant is completely safe. The steps below get you past it.
⚠️ Never click "Move to Trash." If you see that button, click "Done" instead. "Move to Trash" deletes the app.

Step by step

1

Open the installer

Double-click TheAccountant-3.0.0-universal.dmg. A window opens. Inside it, double-click Install TheAccountant.

If the app installs and opens right away — you're done! Otherwise continue to Step 2.
2

When you see "could not verify" → click Done

A warning box appears saying Apple could not verify the app. Click Done (not "Move to Trash").

3

Open System Settings → Privacy & Security

Open System Settings (gear icon), then click Privacy & Security in the left sidebar.

4

Click "Open Anyway"

Scroll down to the Security section. You'll see a message that TheAccountant was blocked. Click the "Open Anyway" button, then enter your password or use Touch ID. If one more box appears, click Open Anyway again.

5

Done!

The app installs and opens. From now on, just open TheAccountant from your Applications folder or Launchpad — no more warnings.

If it says "damaged" instead

!

Use Terminal (copy-paste one line)

Open the Terminal app (press Cmd+Space, type "Terminal", press Enter). Paste this line exactly and press Enter:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/TheAccountant.app

Then open TheAccountant normally from Applications.

Why does this happen?
Apple charges developers a yearly fee for a certificate that removes this first-launch warning. TheAccountant is an independent ICAB CA exam-prep platform used by 1200+ alumni, and the app is completely safe. This is just Apple's standard one-time check for software outside the App Store.
